2019 Porsche Carrera Cup

Returning Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia star, Warren Luff will have his McElrea Racing campaign supported by Gold Coast-based fuel distributor, MEGA Limited.

After driving the MEGA Supercar at the season opening test at Phillip Island yesterday, Luff unveiled his striking MEGA Porsche at MEGA Limited’s headquarters this morning.

It represents his return to Australia’s fastest single-make racing series after last racing Carrera Cup in 2014. He will be McElrea Racing’s outright Championship spearhead with Tim Miles and Anthony Gilbertson challenging for the hotly contested Pro-Am Title.

Over recent years, while not being behind the wheel, Luff played an integral role within the McElrea Racing setup - mentoring Matt Campbell to the Championship in 2016 and Jaxon Evans to last year’s Title - both youngsters now based in Germany as factory-backed Porsche Juniors in Porsche Supercup.

The two time PIRTEK Enduro Cup Champion will again co-drive for Walkinshaw Andretti United in the Supercars endurance races, which further extends his relationship with MEGA, which earlier this month was unveiled as the co-naming rights sponsor of the team.

“McElrea Racing has proved itself as the outfit to beat in the Series. With Matt and Jaxon having won two of the last three years, the pressure’s really on to step up to the plate!

“I’m thrilled to be back in Carrera Cup, the competition seems to get tighter and tighter each year and this year will be no exception. There are some very quick new guys coming in, along with some drivers that have a few years there already, so it’s going to be on from the first race in Adelaide to the Gold Coast finale.

“To have MEGA come on-board for the season is fantastic. They are committed to motorsport in a big way and through my Supercars involvement at Walkinshaw Andretti United, I’ve had the chance to interact with the MEGA team and they are some of the most passionate sponsors going around, so to represent them here in Carrera Cup and in the quest for my third PIRTEK Enduro Cup is something I’m pretty excited about!”

Team Principal, Andy McElrea welcomed Luff back to the Carrera Cup grid - and MEGA to his team.

“Over recent years, Warren’s been at the centre of our team in the two year programs we had with both Matt (Campbell) and Jaxon (Evans) - and in both cases he has mentored them to Championships and global scholarships with the Porsche factory,” said McElrea.

“He’s one of the most consistent drivers going around and I couldn’t be happier to welcome him back to the Carrera Cup grid after spending those years on the sidelines. You could see at every round that he was itching to be out there and he’ll be right there from race one.

“I am also very happy to welcome a new naming rights sponsor in MEGA Limited to our team and to Carrera Cup. MEGA has established a well-recognised brand in a short period of time and is expanding rapidly. We’re elated that we can add further excitement to the MEGA Racing program this year and play our role in seeing them expand even more across Australia.”

Also part of Luff’s MEGA/McElrea Racing campaign in 2019 is Gold Coast-based Youth Charity, No Second Chance.

Luff - who is the lead stunt driver at Warner Bros Movie World - has played an ambassadorial role in No Second Chance since its launch in 2013 and will be central to the school visits associated with every Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia event this year.

No Second Chance delivers positive messages to teens about making correct decisions, highlighting the devastating effects of youth violence and driving under the influence.

MEGA Limited has also aligned itself with No Second Chance and it will be spreading the N2C message nationally through its growing bulk fuel distribution platform.

The Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia Championship gets underway in under two weeks’ time at the Superloop Adelaide 500 (February 28-March 3) and will wind its way across Australia until the Gold Coast 600 (October 25-27).
