McElrea Racing

Hidden Valley Darwin

Despite it being mid-June it was hard to believe we were heading into only our second round of the 2023 Carrera Cup Championship.

We tested at the ‘top end’ in April, so were keen to have a great weekend. All our drivers did a great job at the test so we were confident of some deserving results.

Summary

It is always awesome to get as many MR drivers on the podium as possible every weekend.

Jackson continued his fine form from round 1 at the AGP back in March, qualifying on the front row and taking three podium finishes. This terrific effort sees him extend his championship lead.

Tim’s fortune was far better than Rd 1 and despite qualifying 5th he worked his way through the Pro-Am field over the weekend to almost take the race 3 win and a well-deserved Pro-Am podium.

Christian suffered a flat spotted tyre which made qualifying tough, but he moved forward in every race to take a subdued P11 in race 3. Despite his current luck, he definitely deserves to be up front soon.

Bayley did an excellent job to take his best Carrera Cup qualifying position of 7th. Unfortunately he dropped to 18th in race 1 which made the rest of his weekend hard trying to get through a very angry mid-pack.

Ryder wasn’t happy to qualify 17th. Race 1 gave him valuable experience but in race 2 he made an evasive move to avoid two cars making contact ahead and hit the wall knocking him out for the final race.

Many thanks to the awesome MR crew, Luffy the Supercoach, Lethal Leigh, our drivers, families, sponsors and supporters.
Our next race is at the famed Watkins Glen circuit in New York on 23-24 June with Carrera Cup North America.
