Meet the Team

McElrea Racing boasts an incredibly talented and experienced team of people who make us one of the most respected and well known racing service providers in Australia and New Zealand.

Matt Jackson

Matt is '#1 Mechanic' for Tim Miles in the Porsche Carrera Cup and for various drivers in the 2018 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge.

'Spooner' (as he is affectionately known) is a highly experienced race mechanic with vast motorsport experience in Australia and New Zealand including 2 seasons as a #1 Mechanic in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship.

When time permits he can be found back in his Kiwi homeland racing a Porsche Cup Car in endurance races.

Matt also assists team manager Leigh Geyer with workshop planning and ensuring all cars are prepared and ready to rumble on time.

Daniel Deighton

Dano is '#1 Mechanic' for Tony Walls in the Objective McLaren 650S in the Australian GT Championship and for various drivers in the 2017 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge.

He has worked as a race mechanic in NZ, Asia and Australia for over 15 years with notable success in Carrera Cup and V8 Supercars among numerous other racing achievements. He has racing in his blood with his dad Chris racing F1 powerboats back in the day.

He was the first full time race mechanic to join MR back in 2009. Since then has been the lead mechanic in MR's Mini Challenge, GT3 Cup Challenge, Carrera Cup and now McLaren AGT program. Dano is also in charge of Sub-Assembly at MR.

Tim McCumstie

Tim is '#1 Mechanic' for Jaxon Evans in the Porsche Carrera Cup and for various drivers in the 2018 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge.

He has been in the racing game for the past 15 years working with a number of high profile and championship winning V8 Supercar teams.

Tim has been with MR since 2013 and brings with him his own unique comedic style and is often the instigator of practical jokes. He also likes to sing along to 80's rock ballads.

Jarom Broadhurst

Jarom is '#1 Mechanic' for Anthony Gilbertson in the Porsche Carrera Cup and for various drivers in the 2018 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge.

He is the first apprentice employed by McElrea Racing and has now completed his time. During his training, he was recognised as the Gold Coast 'Apprentice of the Year' making us very proud!

Jarom is a self-motivated guy with a passion for motorsport and fitness and now that he spends so much time pumping iron, his fitness is admired and respected by his MR colleagues!

Simon Bishop

Simon joined MR in late 2012. Being experienced with a lot of horsepower and torque in his Chevy drag car and more than 30 years experience driving big rigs Simon is the perfect driver for our race transporter #McElreaPrime.

He also plays a vital role in driver grip levels by managing more than 200 wheels and 600 tyres for the Porsche Carrera Cup and GT3 Cup Challenge teams.

Simon is a no-nonsense operator and is well-known for his commitment to getting our race cars to the track on time.

Hayden Morris

Hayden is the dedicated 'Data Engineer' for Anthony Gilbertson in the 2018 Porsche Carrera Cup championship.

He has an extensive racing background in Australia, New Zealand and throughout Asia and has been working closely with MR since it's inception in 2009.

Hayden started his career as a race mechanic and over a 10 year period worked is way up to V8 Supercar 'Team Manager' for Fabian Coulthard and John Bowe.

Along with his work at MR Hayden works in the marine and dent removal industries.

Marty Horvath

Marty's passion for cars led to him becoming involved in motorsport while he was completing his apprenticeship in Brisbane.

Since then he has been involved in drag racing, circuit racing and speedway as both a competitor and a mechanic both in Australia and the UK where he worked for a well-known historic racing team.

After returning to Australia he established his own successful tuning business. Marty has been a regular race mechanic with McElrea Racing for more than 5 years.

Heather Plews

With many years experience in busy and diverse businesses Heather (or 'Blondie' as she is affectionately known) is perfectly suited to her role at McElrea Racing.

She loves being organised and runs a tight ship keeping all the day-to-day operations in order.

Blondie enjoys sharing coffee and great food with friends and in her spare time she breeds a tropical fish.

Melanie McElrea

Melanie handles travel, accommodation, uniforms, sponsor ride days and all extra administration duties for McElrea Racing and No Second Chance.

A background working in Airlines both in 'Engineering' and 'Passenger Marketing' and being married to Andy for what seems like a very, very long time gives Mel the experience and patience required to tie-up all the loose ends that come her way!
