Leigh is a renowned and highly respected former V8 Supercar Race Engineer who has worked at the top levels of Australian motorsport since 1990 for such household names as Alan Jones, Tony Longhurst, Paul Morris, Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Paul Radisich, Glenn Seton and Fabian Coulthard.
Leigh is a specialist in Motec I2 Pro and Standard, ECU Manager, Dash Manager ADL2 and 3, PDM, PI Toolbox, 2D, VBox, Driftbox and Cosworth data systems. He has extensive experience with European marques including BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini in both race and production specification.
Before joining MR in 2011 Leigh was considering a move overseas for a career in Formula One.
Originally from Ballarat in Victoria Leigh moved to the Gold Coast in 1981 where he has been based ever since.
Racing Karts from a young age he gained a reputation as a fierce competitor racing in several State and National championships.
After finishing his schooling at Southport State High School he followed his keen interest in cars and completed an apprenticeship with Alan Jones Porsche.
At the end of his apprenticeship Leigh left to work for Benson & Hedges Racing with Tony Longhurst and Alan Jones.
During that time the team ran Ford Sierras, BMWs and finally V8s with the most notable success being Tony Longhursts' 3rd at Bathurst and in the '93 season they were the only team to beat Nissan. While he was there Leigh worked his way up from Mechanic to Team Manager.
Over the next few years Leigh worked for Dick Johnson Racing (DJR), Steven Ellery and Paul Morris where he managed the workshop overseeing the construction of cars for other teams.
He then returned to race engineering V8 Supercars in 2003 for DJR (Max Wilson) and again in 2006 for Paul Cruikshank Racing (John Bowe, Marcus Marshall and Fabian Coulthard) then the following season with Dean Fiore.
Leigh also has his own home handyman business so when he's not making MR's cars go faster, he can be found doing all sorts of tricky tasks on the Gold Coast.
